Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows « The Singing Stranger

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – plot spoiler and full text « The Singing Stranger

Yet another top WordPress blog post on the wonders of which is Harry Potter and the Deathly (real word?) Hollows. Considering that the movie is out and the book comes out today (Saturday 07/21/07) I am sure the posts and articles on this book will continue into next week.

The blog post does go into what is believed to be the ending of the book. People dead, people alive, people married with children… All of this for download. I guess the big question of the day is will this effect sales? Will someone buy it today and then post the WHOLE book?

Personally, I think the book is a collectible and kids, as savvy as they are about being online, will probably want the physical book in their hands. Then again, when it comes to kids, who knows. I also wonder if this kind of thing will push the web further and further into the sites of lawyers and lawsuits.

Well, that is my comment… here are some other people”s thoughts on the blog post:

  1. Grace Says:
July 19th, 2007 at 7:38 pm I am so outraged. How can you end seven books with ‘All was well.’? I don’t want to hear that! I want deaths and things which make you go ‘oooh!’. That brings a whole damn new meaning to the word ‘pants’. Plus, how can Harry Potter lead a normal life after all of that? The trauma, for one thing, I imagine would be a problem. Poor Ginny, I bet all the romance has gone from the relationship now Harry’s not likely to die. Good for Ron and Hermione though. The two better characters got hitched. Good. I am such a Potter geek…I think I’ll leave it at that.
  2. Lee Fan Quo Says:
July 20th, 2007 at 7:28 am Dunno, kinda sounds suspiciously like it was ripped off The Secret Life of Douglas Manson (written by Robert Sturtevant). The similarities are pretty extreme. And how come both have a villain named Severus who dresses all in black yet is complex and contradictory inside? There are just two many similarities here for my liking. Read both books back to back and you’ll see what i mean. And Hermione’s like a weaker version of Lei-Ling. What do you think?

The year’s ten best rap albums so far

The year’s ten best rap albums so far

Bryancrowford.com has come up with an apparently controversial list of the best 10 rap albums for 2007. Plently of people had something to say about the list:

Posted by: dameSTAtus | Jul 6, 2007 3:28:51 PM

Pretty crap year, I agree. Not only did I only buy one cd on that list, but it’s the only one I listen to. I did cop the newish High Priest disc, which is pretty good spliff music, but it’s probably too weird/backpacky for most of you.

Well over 4+ comments on the issue. If your interested check it out and make some noise in the comments.

There are allot of “well wishers” when it comes to music artist Busta Rhymes current court cases. Apparently many feel that there is no way he is going to get off mostly because he was caught red handed in  some of the crimes that they are trying to convict him for.

Feel free to express your opinion on the trils and tribulations of being Busta on Na Right’s blog.

New Transformers Series Coming to Cartoon Network

New Transformers Series Coming to Cartoon Network

If the image of what the show is going to look like actually true (the image is on the right in the article), then I don’t think it will be that great. It will be on the Cartoon Network and of course Hasbro will be on the team.

Now, there are actually NO COMMENT on this blog about this. I am actually shocked that no one has said anything directly on the blog especially considering that Transformers will be coming out next week (and that most people on Digg are tech geeks… yeah, this blog post was featured on Digg just a few minutes ago) .

Well there are comments on Digg about this. 31 comments currently… which is kinda low considering the topic…

My favorite comment so far was made by Gotar:

Loonatics anyone?

LOL!!! If anybody remembers the Loonatics (a futuristic version of Bugs Bunny and crew), it was not that good (but at the same time it was… which is kind of odd). Let hope that the new new NEW Transformers (Generation… what are they u to now… 10?) does better than that. And lets hope that they keep the transforming sound… because if they don’t

Calling Cheney’s Bluff

Calling Cheney’s Bluff

With the news focused on Paris Hilton being released and then interviewed, I am surprised that this got any airplay, but a few places caught it (NBC and the NY Times to name a few) and it is an interesting catch.

Digg lead me to a blog/news site called The Nation. Basically the post is about how the vice president says that the office of the vice president isn’t part of the executive branch therefor doesn’t have to follow the rules of the national archives.

The twist is that one democratic (you now a republican would not say something against his own… then again democrats don’t do that either) basically says if your not part of the executive branch then why are you getting executive branch money? You should get president of congress money for your staff.

Digg is going crazy over this. I guess some of that spilled over to the blog because its got plenty of comments (84 total) on the subject.

Best comment:

So the same crowd that wouldn’t defund a FAILED WAR….are going to “step up” and defund Cheney’s office?!?!?!?

As for Cheney’s claim, though seemingly idiotic (How could a man a “heartbeat away” from the Presidency NOT be in the Executive Branch?)….he may be able to fight it out in the Supreme Court.

Consider…the Vice-President is ALSO Constitutionally…the President of the Senate, overseeing procedures and able to cast a tie-breaking vote. The President nor any other Executive Branch person has a vote in the Senate, therefore it opens up the possibility that the Veep has BOTH Executive and Legislative powers.

And the Bush/Cheney guys aren’t stupid. They can figure this as well AND figure that if it goes to the USSC (the US Supreme Court), that with Roberts, Alito, Scalia, and Thomas….ALL they need is one more Justice on their side to win.

Posted by MASK 06/25/2007 @ 08:59am

I hate to admit it, but Cheney might have a valid argument. I don’t think its too valid because he is obviously part of the executive branch and his seat as president of the Senate is only there for checks and balances… and can he even vote on anything unless it actually is a tie? In other words, when exactly does he vote on anything (other than voting on 50-50 tie decisions)???

Et Cetera: Publick and Privat Curiosities Harlem’s Painted Lady: 65 East 125th Street «

This was a featured blog post on WordPress many days ago, but I just saw it only a couple of days ago. At any rate, I find this blog post very enlightening. What a wonderful idea to take it upon yourself to chronicle the life of an areas environment. This must take allot of fortitude to continue to do ‘caue we are talking about years, even decades of history being captured.

I am very into spacial environments and how they are designed and how they end up working. Its the reason why I went into Architecture many many years ago. What I am glad to see is that many other people find it interesting too. Plenty of people commented on the work being done here.

This blog post has 33 comments and all of them are insightful and help to create a place where you are safe to think and write what YOU think. I think this is someplace you should take a look at… again.

The most interesting comment:

June 8th, 2007 at 6:01 pm As a native New Yorker exiled in Florida, it’s interesting, but sad, to have the deterioration documented. On a recent trip back to my old neighborhood, the decline was similar, but to my amazement there was one street – for at least a four block stretch- that had remained the same since the 60’s. I was amazed and curious. What imunity did those four blocks have that shielded them from the decay all around them? It would be interesting to find out.

Photo Matt » Meaningful Overnight Relationship

Photo Matt » Meaningful Overnight Relationship

Almost a month ago, one of the original creators of WordPress speaks his mind about the press and being part of an, as some would say, “Overnight Success Story”.

Here are some of the best comments:

Niall Kennedy
10.05.2007 @ 2:45 pm

I think it is possible to be an “overnight success” even if the path leading up to the success moment was years of hard work in the making. Bands immediately come to mind who played the same instruments with the same group of guys for years, trying to perfect their own view of music, and then success hits.

Maroon 5 was previously known as Kara’s Flowers, a band some friends formed in high school (young founders) and played their first gig in 1995. Perhaps the genre of music just wasn’t right, or they needed a new instrument somewhere, and Maroon 5 is somewhat of an overnight success in 2002 with the release of Songs About Jane.

I’m sure Oprah could mention her favorite back scratcher and it would turn into an overnight success.

Good post with insight into your unique life and view on things. Thanks.

Hilton Ordered Back to Jail! – TMZ.com

Hilton Ordered Back to Jail! – TMZ.com

This has clearly taken over the web. The comments on stories related to this are in the 200+ range on popular blog sites. TMZ got 1500+ comments on the situation.

And on Digg, in the comments I find out that the sheriff is a what???

By an0nymous 9 hours ago

http://www.cultnews.com/?p=2028
Well looky here: Sheriff Baca is a scientologist.

FTA:
“Baca even videotaped a birthday message for the dead founder of Scientology L. Ron Hubbard”

(Not sure how this fits in to Paris…) Interesting no??? The comment above got 206 positive votes.

On TMZ, you had some well wishers. A few get well and God will be with you sort of comments. Those were actually some of the few first comments on the blog post.

Other comments were not to favorable of Paris, including one comment that broke the page format saying, “Yes!!!” continuously in one line with no spacing.

One commenter has given you a way to write to Paris… not sure if that will work considering she went to medical probably as soon as she got there. Here is the link:

http://www.writeparis.com

Yes… someone is trying to cash in. And yes there is more:

http://www.myspace.com/throwparisbackinjail

Is comment spam going to a new level, or is it just me?

If you are wondering what she did, here it is:

She pleaded no contest to reckless driving and was sentenced to 36 months’ probation, alcohol education and $1,500 in fines. In the months that followed she was stopped twice while driving on a suspended license. The second stop landed her in Sauer’s courtroom.

Is it something that many people from all walks of life get off for, or does Paris Hilton get special treatment because she never had to live in an environment like that in her entire life?

I have no answer to that. I haven’t seen any posts that speak to that issue either.

I another sentencing related event, digg posted about a 17 year old getting  a mandetory sentencing for consented oral sex… with a 15 year old. So this was obviouslt brought up against that in one comment:

By masonreloaded on 6/07/07

Like the Georgia guy who is serving a mandatory TEN YEARS for consensual oral sex with a 15 year old when he was 17??? And prosecutors/judges/governor are refusing to lessen his sentence, even though he has already served over 2 years in jail and the law has since been changed to a MAXIMUM one-year sentence because of his case…

http://washingtontimes.com/national/20070606-112512-6900r.htm

If you wish to read through a few hundred comments on Digg (some of them are very explicit while others reallt go into detail about what is going on and where you can find more info) just give a click here.

Overall, I think in the world of the social net, this seemed to really hit a cord with people in a big way. I do wonder what the aftermath of this will be. Will my questions of “is this something that usually happens to inmates” be answered? What about what has been brought up by others that if it was a minority, they would have served the whole 45 days.

What does MADD think about this? How is this effecting other starlets?

Hmmmm…..
